The School of Natural Resources and the Environment is committed to maintaining and enhancing a diverse and inclusive environment within and outside the school by:

The Inclusive Excellence Committee is part of the School of Natural Resources and the Environment’s attempt to promote this effort.
Our mission: We encourage and promote a diverse, inclusive, and equitable school by building community and supporting learning, facilitating information exchange, and developing and assessing policy.
Our vision: A thriving, diverse department whose members (across all roles, at all levels) are demographically representative of the University of Arizona community. Multiple identity groups equitably access resources, feel safe, trust one another, and communicate skillfully.
Our goal: Our overall aim is an enhanced learning environment in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment by embracing the cumulative intellect and perspectives that extend from cultural and demographic diversity. Our overall objectives include bringing awareness to issues of inclusion and diversity, building trust and reassurance by creating a welcoming, respectful community that honors multicultural backgrounds, and serving as an example to other schools and departments.
- Include a member of the Inclusive Excellence Committee on every search committee.
- Recommend training for the school community on diversity and inclusion issues.
- Organize events that celebrate inclusion and diversity.
- Create in the department safe spaces and safe means to comment on inclusion and diversity issues.
- Liaise with the Agriculture, Life and Veterinary Sciences, and Cooperative Extension Division’s Diversity and Inclusion Council and the Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement to develop and enact strategies to create real change.
- Recruit more people into the Inclusive Excellence Committee, especially students.
- Develop actionable strategies for short- and long-term change.
- Be open to ideas for change and embrace honest discussion of difficult topics.
- Identify and integrate strategies for more formally assessing diversity and inclusion metrics in faculty and staff performance.
- Compile an annual report of activities
