Seminar: Conserving Natural Resources and Cultural Heritage of the White Mountain Apache Tribe

Abstract:
The White Mountain Apache Game and Fish Department performs all wildlife conservation and management functions on the 1.6 million-acre Fort Apache Indian Reservation, while also serving as a key, self-sustaining business enterprise supporting the Tribe’s important recreation/tourism economy.  The Game and Fish Department addresses the ongoing challenge and need to conserve, protect, and restore the diverse wildlife resources and habitats of the White Mountain Apache Tribe for the sustained use and enjoyment of present and future generations, while balancing the need to provide the highest quality outdoor recreation experiences and opportunities to users to optimize commercial profitability in a way that is compatible with the cultural heritage and natural resource preservation goals of the Tribe.
